Fundraiser: An Evening with author Luis Alberto Urrea
February 13 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm
AN EVENING WITH LUIS ALBERTO URREA, A BENEFIT FOR NO MORE DEATHS/NO MAS MUERTES
No More Deaths/No Mas Muertes is excited to announce that critically acclaimed author, Luis Alberto Urrea, is once again coming to Tucson to host a fundraiser to support our work. Mr. Urrea is the author of _The Devil’s Highway _and 16 other books, which reflect his cross-cultural experiences as a Mexican-American.
Born in Tijuana, MX to an American mother and a Mexican father, Urrea is best known as a “border writer”. He has won many awards for his writing and was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2005 for _The Devil’s Highway_, which tells the story of a group of men who in 2001 attempted to cross the border into southern Arizona’s deadliest corridor, the very area where our volunteers leave lifesaving food and water. Urrea was recently named a Guggenheim Fellow and is a distinguished professor of creative writing at the University of Illinois-Chicago.
A reception with the author at 5:30 pm precedes the main program, which will begin at 7:00 pm. Tickets are currently available at NOMOREDEATHS.BROWNPAPERTICKETS.COM at two
levels: reception and program ($60) or for the program alone ($40).
All proceeds for this event will support the humanitarian work of No
More Deaths/No Mas Muertes, which is a ministry of this church. We are grateful for your support of this event and encourage you to pass this information along to your friends and family members who may be interested. It promises to be a lively evening!
